About the role

Reporting to the Manager Open Space, this role is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership and planning of Council’s environmental, natural resource management, stormwater, floodplain, and water quality management activities.



You will lead and support a well-established team of two direct and nine indirect staff reports as they develop exciting and impactful programs and projects for the betterment of the Wyndham community.

What your day will look like

·         Developing and implementing strategies, policies and programs relating to effective water quality and drainage management

·         Partnering with government agencies on delivering modernised urban and rural stormwater management practices and rural land management programs

·         Providing high quality catchment management and drainage scheme infrastructure planning and asset management advice including precinct structure planning

·         Overseeing large scale urban stormwater capital works programming and planning including stormwater re-use and recycling infrastructure planning

·         Overseeing the successful development and implementation of relevant stormwater and biodiversity management plans and policies

·         Reviewing the planning approval processes as it relates to drainage and environmental management

·         Overseeing and implementing floodplain management planning and mapping

 

What you will bring

·         Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Stormwater Management, Environment, Natural Resource Management or related fields

·         Substantial experience in the effective implementation of integrated water management and natural resource management policies, strategies and programs

·         High level communication skills including demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence to achieve organisational outcomes

·         Working knowledge of stormwater catchment management, floodplain management, drainage schemes and systems, biodiversity and land management, precinct structure planning and protecting waterway health

·         Demonstrated experience in managing and leading teams

·         Demonstrated experience in managing capital and operational budgets including development of successful business cases

·         Understanding of local government processes and relevant legislation
