A bit about the role
Reporting to the Head of Governance and working closely with the CEO’s Office, you will take ownership of the day-to-day running of the Mayor and Councillors Office to ensure our elected officials are supported in discharging their duties to the community and in representing the community on any external bodies.

You will have responsibility for the work program of the Councillor Support unit, including their day to day work program and longer-term strategic work that supports our elected Councillors.
 

What you’ll deliver

  • Providing oversight, support, guidance and coaching to the Mayor and Councillors support team
  • Preparing or approving all written communication on behalf of the Mayor and Councillors when they are representing the City
  • Providing advice around civic protocol and procedure
  • Liaising with significant stakeholders, both internal and external to support Councillors
  • Overseeing the management of Council Advisory Committees
  • Attending events with the Mayor of the day as required, to promote the activities of Council
     

What you’ll bring

  • Exceptional political astuteness and an interest in civic governance, protocol and operations
  • Experience working with elected officials within a level of government in Australia
  • Experience managing a small team with varying roles and responsibilities in a fast and active setting
  • The ability to craft and execute a range of written communication including Mayoral correspondence and speeches
  • High levels of attention to detail and the ability to manage complex and volume work programs
  • Tertiary qualification in political sciences, communications or journalism, or lesser qualification with substantial experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a credible track record in liaising with stakeholders to the highest level
  • A positive, proactive and flexible attitude
