About the role

The foundation of the Enhanced Maternal Child Health (EMCH) Program is a child centred and family partnership focus, to promote the best health and development outcomes for children 0-3 years, within families experiencing vulnerabilities.

As an Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting families to be confident and capable in their decision-making related to their children whilst developing the skills of families to place their children front of mind.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and positive MCH nurse to support the EMCH team in providing a flexible model of care, with the aim of achieving improved outcomes for infants, children, and their parents/care givers, who are experiencing vulnerabilities that are impactful on parenting.

This opportunity will enable you to expand your experience in applying clinical skills in a community focused environment. With support from your Team Leader and EMCH colleagues, you will be supported to understand and utilise the EMCH enhancements to the CDIS program, build a greater understanding of working to support families holistically within a team environment, liaise with aligned agencies and build care team relationships.

Entry into the EMCH team will include training and mentorship, gradually building to enabling you to work at full capacity within the workforce. This is a full time parental leave backfill position until 31 July 2026.

What your day will look like

  • Collaborate with a small, supportive team to deliver family-centred care within the EMCH program

  • Liaise with external agencies, including family support services and DFFH Child Protection, to coordinate holistic care

  • Engage flexibly with families in a variety of settings to build strong partnerships and promote active participation

  • Maintain clear, thorough, and accountable documentation in line with professional standards

  • Manage and prioritise a varied caseload to ensure responsive and individualised care

  • Apply strong time management and adaptability to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery

What you will bring

Mandatory Qualifications to practice as a MCH Nurse in Victoria, as outlined in the Position Description:

  • Current registration as both an APHRA Registered Nurse (Division 1) and Registered Midwife, as well as postgraduate Diploma/Degree (or equivalent) in Child and Family Health Nursing.

In addition:

  • Current Nurses Board Victoria Registration with Maternal & Child Health endorsement

  • Significant experience as MCH nurse

  • Demonstrated experience working with CALD communities or a genuine curiosity and willingness to learn

  • Current valid Victorian driver’s licence and employee Working with Children check

  • Confidence and competency in using computer systems including M&CH programs

If you progress past the interview stage, you may be required to complete pre-employment screening, which may include police checks, a medical, qualification verification, and an Australian work rights check.
