About the role

We are seeking a dedicated individual to help facilitate and strengthen the capacity of individuals and communities to work together and build lasting, supportive networks. As a Community Strengthening Officer, you will be responsible for empowering individuals and communities to identify their collective skills and resources, enabling them to collaborate effectively to ensure people are connected, resourceful, resilient and innovative.

In this role, you will support diverse models of community-led development and action, working to create an environment where community members can actively participate in decision-making processes and develop systems that increase fair and equitable access for the community. You will foster collaboration, resource sharing, and joint advocacy, while promoting social cohesion across various community groups, prioritising focus on people experiencing exclusion/marginalisation.

This position is a part time, permanent position working 30.4 hours per week; days of the week are flexible however must be available to work Tuesdays. Flexibility to work after business hours is required to meet community expectations.

What your day will look like

  • Leading community development practices that are collaborative and centre on community participation and leadership.
  • Working alongside communities across Wyndham to foster social cohesion, enhance community resilience, strengthen community wellbeing, social justice and equity for all.
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships and partnerships with community and key stakeholders to respond to and strengthen social justice outcomes.
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based community strengthening initiatives and projects.

What you will bring

  • Degree or Diploma level qualifications in a relevant discipline such as social sciences, health promotion, community development or related field with some relevant experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of community development principles and practice and commitment to equitable community outcomes.
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating community-based initiatives that build capacity, strengthen partnerships and/or promote social justice.
  • Experience building relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. 

If you progress past the interview stage, you may be required to complete pre-employment screening, which may include police checks, a medical, qualification verification, and an Australian work rights check.
