A bit about the role

As a School Crossing Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of children and others at school crossings within Wyndham. If you enjoy being outdoors, supporting your community and interacting and building rapport with the general public then this role might be a great fit!

Your shifts may vary depending on requirements - some weeks you may work 5 days while other weeks may be less. You need to be contactable and flexible with your availability though ideally, you can work Monday to Friday each week if needed. Please note that there is no work during the school holidays.

The shifts are for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon in line with school start and finish times. The crossings you cover will be located around the Wyndham municipality so you will need to be able to travel across several suburbs.

If you are successful, we will provide you with training, support and all the required equipment/PPE. This is a very rewarding role and many of our supervisors stay with us for many years.

In this role, you will:

  • Educate pedestrians on the safe use of school crossings
  • Operate traffic control signals and place appropriate signage and flags
  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous communication with children of all ages and the general public
  • Be aware and alert to judge and regulate traffic flow, report illegal driving through crossings, and the physical ability to react in an emergency if needed

What you will bring

  • A current Working with Children (Employee) card OR be willing to apply for one OR upgrade your volunteer card (this will be approx. $120 at your own cost - https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/)
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and the general public
  • Reliability and understanding of school crossing requirements
  • Flexibility to travel and work anywhere within the Wyndham City municipality
  • Mobile phone
  • Have access to and a working knowledge of basic email
