A bit about the role

Reporting to the team leader, the Senior Town Planner is a key team member integral in maintaining efficient and prompt customer service from the Established Area team. 

You will be involved with applicants from pre-application, right through to issuing planning permits. Some day-to-day responsibilities will include approving or refusing planning applications, answering in-bound calls into the department, assisting with general inquiries and facilitating face to face meetings with customers whilst adhering to the specified standards in order to meet the agreed productivity and quality of service.

You will be handling applications within multiple Precinct Structure Plans, infill development, identified activity centres, industrial and rural areas. 

What you’ll do

  • Efficient processing of applications
  • Excellent relationship management with internal and external stakeholders
  • Written reports including Council meeting reports
  • Effective research results
  • Exceptional customer service focus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills allowing you to represent Council at VCAT as required
  • The implementation and administration of the statutory planning responsibilities pursuant to the Wyndham Planning Scheme (and its successors), the Planning and Environment Act, Subdivision Act and other relevant legislation
  •  Assist in the initiation and implementation of reviews of statutory planning procedures which maximise the efficiency of the Unit

 

What you’ll bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Town Planning or other related discipline
  • Experience in local government (statutory planning) or other political environments will be highly regarded
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation including the Planning and Environment Act, Subdivision Act and other applicable legislation
  • Flexibility in permit application processing – this is not a one size fits all process
  • A strong desire to be involved in working in a customer focused environment with a high level of service provision
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude
