About the role

The Conservation Team manage a variety of natural areas within Wyndham including river and creek corridors, wetlands, saltmarsh, coastal and grassland reserves. We are passionate about enhancing ecological values while delivering an exceptional community experience within our conservation reserves.

As the Leading Hand Conservation, you will work alongside and provide guidance and supervision to Conservation Team Members to ensure Wyndham City’s conservation reserves are maintained to a high standard. You will also be responsible for programming works, managing data, conducting OHS and site audits and liaising with external groups to enhance, regenerate and manage some of Wyndham’s most significant natural assets.


What your day will look like

·         Plan, schedule and lead maintenance and ecological restoration works including weed control, revegetation and prescribed burning

·         Supervision and development of other staff

·         Monitoring productivity and quality of work within the team via auditing

·         Liaising with and supervising community organisations and contractors

·         Responding to customer service and maintenance requests

·         Operating and maintaining equipment such as spray rigs, brush cutters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, mowers and augers

·         Working outdoors in a range of environments and conditions

·         Representing Wyndham City Council in accordance with our organisational values


What you will bring

·         A qualification in conservation land management or related discipline with relevant experience; or substantial relevant experience

·         Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff, contractors and build relationships with community groups

·         Sound verbal and written skills, including the ability to draft reports, plans and correspondence

·         Demonstrated knowledge of conservation land management/maintenance methods and techniques

·         Knowledge of local indigenous flora and fauna, and strong weed identification skills

·         Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

·         Current Victorian Drivers licence
