A bit about the role

Wyndham City’s Sport & Recreation team works closely with our existing sporting clubs and community groups to support the sporting needs of our growing community. The Sport & Recreation team play an integral part in activating Wyndham’s parks and reserves and provide important opportunities for residents to be physical active, interact and embrace civic life.

An exciting opportunity exists to join our graduate program as a Sport & Recreation Officer, where you will work across the unit collaborating, planning, developing and activating our open spaces, sports fields and facilities. You will have the opportunity to support the team in managing the delivery many of the ongoing projects as we identify, assess and plan the future proposed developments and work closely with a variety of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for our growing community.

As a Graduate Sports & Recreation Officer with Wyndham City Council you will:

  • Gain practical experience and learnings across Council’s Sports and Recreation functions
  • Join a motivated and passionate team who support and manage the sport and recreation facilities and services across Wyndham City Council
  • Support projects and programs aimed at promoting an active, healthy, and connected Wyndham community
  • Engage in diverse roles and rotate within the department

Applicants who have graduated from a degree or diploma course in Sport Management, Business or Community Development or related field, or lesser formal qualification as listed in the position description within the last 12 months are eligible to apply.

What you will deliver

  • Deliver excellent customer service to the community, contributing to and supporting the administration of our engagement with Wyndham community members, organisations and groups.
  • Manage bookings for sports facilities in Wyndham's community, conduct facility inspections, and maintain records of their condition.
  • Efficient and effective administrative support across the Sports and Recreation department.
  • Participate in the planning of capital works projects and business cases.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of events and programs which provide opportunities for community members to be active.

What you will bring

  • Passion to learn about how sport and recreation can contribute to active and vibrant communities.
  • Familiarity with community sport and recreation through volunteering, placement or in a paid capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Well-developed customer service and communication skills.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma course in Sport Management, Business, Community Development or related discipline
  • A employee Working with Children Check
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude

To be eligible for ​our Emerging Talent Graduate Program, you have:

  • Studied or currently living in Wyndham
  • Graduated from the required course or a related field (listed in the position description) within the last 12 months
  • Eligibility to work in Australia and satisfactory completion of a police check.
