A bit about the role
The Financial Controller forms part of Wyndham Senior Leadership team and is responsible for the management of our Financial Services department. You will drive a high performing culture of partnership with the organisation, ensuring and enabling effective financial management and discipline.

You will lead and oversee the annual budget and planning process, working with service and asset delivery teams, in developing Council’s   long-term financial plan. Utilising your experience in financial planning with commercial acumen, you will inspire your team and the broader organisation in the delivery of Council’s public value outcomes in a manner which is financially sustainable.

What you’ll deliver

  • Leadership to a large finance team, promoting exceptional customer experience as an internal service
  • Management of Council’s finances, ensuring strategies, policies and processes are aligned to supporting the delivery of our vision and mission
  • Drive our annual budget process, aligning to and developing our long-term financial plan and reporting to support effective financial decision making across the organisation
  • Management of the Property Valuation and Rating functions including related collection and hardship assistance policies
  • Further imbed our business partnering model, providing advice and developing a culture of customer experience, innovation and enabling financial discipline
  • Identify strategic threats or opportunities, planning and problem solving to ensure positive impact and risk management practices to mitigate against threats

What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrated financial leadership experience, leading large and multidisciplinary financial teams and measures of success
  • Knowledge and experience implementing best practice financial management, with an understanding of the local government context, and associated standards and legislation
  • Exceptional written, verbal and analytical communication skills, ensuring effective understanding to senior leaders, our Councillors and a diverse range of staff across the organisation
  • Post-graduate qualification in business/commerce and a member of a recognised Australian accounting body
  • A positive, curious and flexible mind
