About the role

As an Environmental Planner within our Open Space Department, you will develop, plan and implement policies, strategies, programs and projects which raise the profile of Wyndham’s natural environment and addresses issues relating to native flora and fauna.

You will bring your extensive experience within the industry to confidently provide internal and external planning and policy advice and support in relation to environmental protection as well as acting as Council’s key contact with government agencies in relation to environmental planning legislation and preparing Council’s response to changes in legislation.

What your day will look like

·         Implementing and reporting on actions from the City Forest and Habitat Strategy for the environment, including related policies and programs

·         Preparing Council’s response to native vegetation and habitat protection in Precinct Structure Plans and growth area planning

·         Developing and supporting relevant planning controls to protect significant trees and ecological sites in Wyndham

·         Completing assessments of environmental planning submissions

·         Supervising contractors, consultants and volunteers

·         Providing input into the development and review of relevant strategies, plans and policies which relate to the natural environment and trees

·         Participating in the Green Living Series and conducting community engagement related to the environment



What you will bring

·         Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Land Use Planning or related environmental field (essential)

·         A current Victorian driver’s licence

·         Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic land use, environmental planning and policy

·         Demonstrated experience applying environmental legislation/policy in a land use planning context

·         Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing environmental policies and program

·         Expert knowledge of relevant State and Federal Government’s legislation as it relates to the environment, trees and land use planning

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively work as a team and communicate with a range of stakeholders

·         Well-developed strategic and analytical skills are required to formulate solutions and options within a broad framework
